Today is most definitely fall.  Grey, damp and cool.  I often find myself resisting this time of year and feel a sense of dread with each day becoming shorter.  I woke this morning feeling the heaviness of the sky but as I've carried on with my Monday, I've been reflecting on a poem by Rumi that was posted on facebook by a dear friend this morning and I find myself feeling lighter.

This fundraiser to support an elementary school in the Peruvian Andes is an initiative that is very close to my heart.

Food just gets me excited these days.  Over the past year, I've really become more and more interested in seeking out local food sources and choosing to eat at restaurants that make this a focus on their menus as well.  It supports local business, reduces our carbon footprint (why eat berries from California when they are in season right here, right now?) and it just tastes better!

The Oregon coast is stunningly beautiful!  My husband, Chris, and I have recently returned from a two week holiday along the coast and I've been smiling fondly as we organize our photos (here's a few to share, Chris' handle on the site is "Winddoctor").

When two women are friends and open their hearts to one another through the shared experience of infertility, there can be stress and strain on the relationship when one of the women becomes pregnant. Over the years I have heard many women share their grief over wondering how to best work through this difficulty and I just came across a helpful article that I wanted to share on the RESOLVE website. Here is an excerpt:

Many of you may know from previous posts and from me telling stories during treatments, that Chris and I have a very dear friend who had a double lung transplant 6 weeks ago.  Today is the annual Great Strides Walk and groups of supporters will be gathered across the country to help fundraise and to bring awareness about cystic fibrosis.

I just had the most beautiful morning with my two boyz.  Chris and I walked down to the beach with our dog, Tosca.  We threw sticks in to the ocean for our pooch to swim and then sat on a log to watch the start of the Swiftsure race off of Clover Point.

I'm so excited about the cupcakes I made today.  Yummiest little treats ever and they are sugar-free, gluten-free and dairy-free to boot.  My husband, Chris, will often have a slightly hesitant, pained and suspicious expression when I'm raving about a new healthy recipe that I've just tried for the first time.  But these cupcakes didn't last 24hrs in our house.

While Mother's Day may be a time for family and celebration to those with children, it can be a time of isolation and depression for those who have difficulty having children, or can't have them at all.  A quote by Beverly Barna, author of Infertility Sucks! expresses what many women are feeling on this Hallmark occasion....

April 17-25 is Organ Donor Awareness Week and this is a cause that is very close to our hearts.  We have a very dear friend with cystic fibrosis who has recently been transferred to a Toronto hospital in the hopes of increasing the odds of receiving a new pair of (donor) lungs as soon as possible.
