Traditional Chinese Medicine Makes Fertility Treatments Far More Effective, TAU Researchers Discover

Traditional Chinese medicine has long been used to ease pain, treat disease, boost fertility, and prevent miscarriage. Known in the Western medical community by its acronym TCM, these traditional remedies include herbal preparations and acupuncture. Now Tel Aviv University researchers have discovered that a combination of TCM therapy and intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a winning solution for hopeful mommies who are having trouble conceiving.

Effect of acupuncture on symptoms of anxiety in women undergoing in vitro fertilisation: a prospective randomised controlled study.

Conclusions:
The results indicate that acupuncture can reduce anxiety symptoms observed by the reduction of psychological parameters of women undergoing IVF. Further evidence should be sought as to whether acupuncture might be a complementary option for patients undergoing IVF.

Acupuncture improves Clinical Pregnancy Rates (CPR) and Live Birth Rates (LBR) among women undergoing IVF.

Conclusions: Acupuncture improves CPR and LBR among women undergoing IVF based on the results of studies that do not include the Streitberger control. The Streitberger control may not be an inactive control. More positive effects from using acupuncture in IVF can be expected if an appropriate control and more reasonable acupuncture programs are used.

Acupuncture for Infertility: Is It An Effective Therapy?

Conclusion: Most of the studies suggested that acupuncture plays a positive role in the management of infertility including ovulation dysfunction, IVF-ET, and male infertility. Acupuncture may improve ovulation via modulation of the central and peripheral nervous system, the neuroendocrine and endocrine system, the ovarian blood flow, and metabolism. Acupuncture can improve the outcome of IVF-ET, and the mechanisms may be related to an increased uterine blood flow, inhibition of uterine motility, and a reduction of depression, anxiety and stress. Its effect in modulating immune function also suggests helpfulness in improving the outcome of IVF-ET. Acupuncture may play a positive role in male infertility.
